Churchill Downs, Inc. receives legal authorization to provide online sports betting in the state of Tennessee

Churchill Downs Incorporated, an American casino operator, has just got preliminary clearance to start selling online sportsbetting to bettors in Tennessee, a state in the southern United States.

This follows certifications for FanDuel Group, Tennessee Action 24/7, DraftKings, Inc., and the BetMGM app from the Roar Digital joint venture of MGM Resorts International and Entain, as reported by the Associated Press on Thursday. This brings the total number of businesses authorised to run online sportsbetting in 'The Volunteer State' to five.

Congressional largesse:

It was announced in November of 2018 that licenced businesses in Tennessee might begin offering online-only sportsbetting to anybody over the age of 21. According to reports, licenced operators generated a total handling of over $27 million in the first eight days of the new system and paid a tax rate of about $509,000.

Churchill Downs Incorporated is reportedly merging its BetAmerica sportsbetting service with its popular TwinSpires online parimutuel wagering business in order to qualify for licencing in seven states. These states include Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Colorado, New Jersey, and Mississippi.

The CEO of the Tennessee Education Lottery, Rebecca Hargove, allegedly told the Associated Press that Churchill Downs Incorporated must complete a few more procedures before it can go online. The lottery director supposedly concluded by saying that later this month, her organisation plans to convene an official meeting that might result in even more businesses being licenced to offer online sportsbetting to bettors in Tennessee.
