ANJ Announces Its Strategy for Controlling Underage and Excessive Gambling

The French Gaming Authority (ANJ) is committed to protecting its players and encouraging responsible gambling. 

The regulation that governs the gaming industry was published in October of 2019. Since then, player safety has improved dramatically because to the ANJ's requirement that every operator submit an annual action plan.

Because of the prevalence of underage players and problem gambling in France, ANJ has chosen to focus on these issues specifically. Operators were tasked with safeguarding minors, identifying problem gamblers, and providing them with resources in 2022. The operators are given a few specific suggestions about how to proceed. 

Results, however, are already visible; progress has been made on each of these fronts since 2020. 

Awareness efforts that aim to discourage underage gambling have been launched in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This will carry on in the mainstream media throughout the course of this year.

The next step is to put up a notice clearly stating that gambling is not permitted for anybody under the age of 18. New methods of monitoring sales to minors, as well as those for detecting illegal evasion efforts, will be incorporated.

The operators will also need to exercise caution while designing new games. There has to be thorough consideration of the hazards, and steps will be taken to lessen them. 

In-game tools will be standardised, players will have to be better informed, and campaigns' visibility will be carefully optimised and monitored. The ANJ must sanction the dashboard the players will use. Quantitative and qualitative metrics for success will be the primary focus.

The ANJ-created how-to manual will shortly be released to the public. At the same time, ANJ hopes to start with control activities to help find and assist those who gamble too much.
